Bible Verses about Metaverse

It’s no longer news that the metaverse is here to stay. You may be confused about what exactly is going on. Maybe you thought it to be an industry, a coin or one of those trends that will soon pass. But here, you will get to understand the metaverse simply and what the scripture has to say.

Yes, most Christians believe the Bible is a book that contains all the Basic Instructions we need here on Earth. A book that gives and shows the right way of living to please their Creator. Without taking much of your time, ‘Metaverse’ is two syllabi words coming together. ‘Meta’ and ‘verse’. The verse sounds like the Universe to you quite alright, and Meta? It has much meaning amongst others but here, it means beyond, so we can now say the Metaverse means a world beyond the universe.

It is a reality that exists beyond the primary one you are in. The metaverse is a simulated (artificial) digital environment that uses augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and blockchain, along with concepts from social media, for users interaction mimicking the real world.

On the internet, we’re always interacting with something — be it a website, a game, or a chat program that connects us to our friends. The metaverse takes this one step further and puts the user in the middle of the action. This opens the door to stronger, more realistic experiences that simply browsing the web or watching a video fail to evoke very often and you will agree with me?

So let’s take a look at some verses in the scripture that give us some ideas about the Metaverse.

2 Timothy 3:2a

As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed…( MSB)

FFor people will be lovers of self [narcissistic, self-focused]… (AMP)

For men shall be lovers of their own selves…. (KJV)

The Metaverse is meant to bring people closer together in previous ways unheard of. It’s also believed to open a lot of room for expansion. But if the internet was created to connect people all over the world; yet you still feel isolated in the room because no one is talking to one another, everyone is buried in their electronic gadgets, what possibility is there that the metaverse would bridge the gap?

Also, the metaverse makes the outside world so real to users that they would begin to forget reality here, and want to be lost forever in there. When you meet others on the metaverse, they have their avatars as a digital representation of them, how would you be sure that this found friend of yours is not a thief, an abuser or a false personality of who he/she proclaims to be?

Romans 12:16

Live in harmony with each other. Don’t try to act important, but enjoy the company of ordinary people. (NLT)

And live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty(snobbish, high minded, exclusive)… (AMP)

Do you know that it’s not everyone that will be able to be on the metaverse? Not everyone will be able to afford the VR and AR equipment that will allow users to immerse themselves in this virtual world? So what will become of those who don’t? Won’t that bring about sociological issues and isolation? You would only be engrossed and want to mingle with those in your class and consider those who aren’t as social misfits.

Daniel 12:4b

Many will rush here and there and knowledge will increase… (NLT)

Like I said earlier, it is a simulated digital environment. It’s not real and your physical body can’t interact there that’s why an avatar is created there to represent you and do exactly what you would do, go where you would and connect with friends. Now, remember that man is a tripartite being. He has a body, soul and spirit. This is one concept man is trying to bring about. Since we have robots that look exactly like humans, the only difference is they are machines built but humans have the breath of God in them. In this conceit, the metaverse is also created to live beyond and flex their creative ability as well.

Hebrew 11:1a & 3

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen…(NLT)

By faith, we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see didn’t come from anything that can be seen…(NLT)

Man decides to then make man have all that he wants in his widest fantasies becoming a reality. You remember that faith is the substance of things hoped for. Those things hoped for is what has now been brought to you in the metaverse. “You shouldn’t hope again but go for it now” is the central theme. You can interact in that digital world with a celebrity you always wanted and this can even raise your lust more because your avatar sees his/her avatar and you interact like you’re both real together which is true but not in the real world, just that ideal world. Since the world was created by those things which can’t be seen, man has decided to bring to you those things which are real in your imagination to reality so you can handle them and not wish they are anymore then we see lawlessness may not be curtailed at all.

Hebrews 10:25

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing nearer… (NLT)

Remember some couples met online and started interacting before getting to meet physically but in the metaverse, I am afraid no physical meeting may hold. Even a pastor will be there to join you two together when you’re not even sure of who you want to spend the rest of your life with. Before you know it, you begin to avoid some persons you consider church and begin to move with the cool ones and gradually, you get cold as regard eternity.

Isaiah 44:20

This lover of emptiness, of nothing, is so out of touch with reality, so far gone, that he can’t even look at what he’s doing… (MSB)

Am I saying the metaverse is all bad? Of course not but God wants us to interact with everything He has made and for His pleasure too. There’s every tendency to get fascinated and carried away with that world, it’s not real but portrayed to be the next level of interaction which can be detrimental to your soul if you aren’t balanced, sensitive and discerning enough. What if Jesus Christ came as an avatar to die for you? He came in the physical body to die for a physical man to spend eternity in a glorified physical body of its own.

What are your thoughts on it? Is there any Bible verse we missed out? I will like to hear your opinion in the comment box. Thank you for reading so far.

  1. Metaverse is a means to an end. It’s meant to distract the world from reality.

This is a great write-up. God will continue to grant you more wisdom.
