Cryptocurrency is not just a digital form or equivalent of the regular currencies that we have.
It is not a digital version of USD, EURO, POUNDS or any other currency.
It exists on its own and it is 100% invisible.
Of course, it can be converted into regular currencies and be spent as notes or coins.
You are probably a crypto expert and you know the details more than I do so there is no point in boring you about the blockchain system, mining, miners etc.
What does the Bible say about Cryptocurrency?
Is there any mention of it in the scriptures or a mention of something related?
These and some other questions are what we will discuss in this post.
Is Cryptocurrency in the Bible?
First of all, I would like to state that as Christians, we must know, believe and hold on to the truth that every single thing about our lives or human life has a direction in the Bible. In other words, God has an opinion about everything and His opinions are clearly stated in the Holy Bible either explicitly or implicitly. Implicitly, sometimes because of the fallibility of human interpretation or association with particular socio-cultural eras or geographical settings.
Am I too serious? What I am saying is that God has something to say about everything that exists now or will exist in future. For example, the internet wasn’t existing in the days the Bible was being written but there are references to the Internet in the book of Revelation. And God clearly tells us how we should behave in the human community, so we can know that Social Media trolling, hacking, and proliferation of viruses are against God’s will even if the Word ‘internet’ is not in the Bible.
I am emphasizing this because some people make excuses by saying ‘oh, this is not in the Bible so we can formulate our laws about it by ourselves”, there is nothing like that and there will never be.
That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun.
There are basically no new things just like Solomon said.
Okay. So when talking about cryptocurrency being in the Bible, we will start by asking the question:
Ques: What is cryptocurrency?
Answer: A cryptocurrency is a form of currency.
Ques: What is a currency?
Answer: A currency is a system of money.
Therefore cryptocurrency is a system of money.
In fact, a cryptocurrency is a form of money.
Does the Bible say anything about money?
In fact, money is mentioned 140 times in the King James Version of the Bible.
You know a lot of things can be traced to the beginning of creation and a lot of truths are established when we go back to Genesis.
When God created man in Genesis 2, He placed man in the garden of Eden. In Eden, man had everything he wanted so there was no money. It would have been useless.
This tells us that God did not create money. Man did.
All the while Adam was in Eden, he had no need for money.
The existence of money asserts there is a lack or need that needs to be met.
If we don’t have needs, money will be useless to us.
That was the situation for Adam.
But when Adam died spiritually, all the consequences of sin came on him. Including, lack and want.
There was no longer Eden where everything is provided. Resources became scattered.
Mr A has water on his land, Mr B does not but he has fruits. So the need for them to exchange resources arose.
And that was how many came into existence.
History tells us that it was called ‘trade by barter’ and then it kept on changing, kept on graduating till it became notes.
Not it has graduated further to involve ‘cryptocurrency’.
In the real sense, money is not the paper or the coin that we exchange, it is the value.
The value is unseen and cannot really be accurately measured.
This is what cryptocurrency has come to prove.
The truth is God did not create money, man did and so God does not care about whatever we chose to represent money with.
Of course, cowries used to be money in Africa but it wasn’t a sin.
So God is not against cryptocurrency. Rather, God wants his children to be super-wealthy.
Whatever men call ‘money’ He wants His children to have many of it.
If ‘sand’ becomes currency today, God wants His children to have plenty of it. If Gold becomes money, or clothes, or brooms the same thing applies.
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
3 John 2
So what we call money is not what matters but God’s will about ‘money’.
What the Bible says about money
Having established that cryptocurrency is money, the Bible talked about money and therefore, the Bible talked about cryptocurrency, we will now look at some things the Bible says about money.
As earlier stated, God is less concerned about what we call money but He is very particular about our conduct with money.
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
God want us to make a distinction between the love for money and the love for Him. We are to love Him with all our minds, our strength and our soul. We should not do the same for money.
Money must be soon a tool, as a means to an end not the end in itself.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
1 Tim. 6:10
Cryptocurrency and Faith
We have seen that money is not the notes or coins but the value behind it which we call currency. This means that money itself is not visible.
It’s a force that can be used to control and acquire resources.
For us as Christians, Faith is our currency. It is our purchasing power.
Faith is the force with which we change situations and acquire the blessings that are already ours.
the Faith currency is higher than cryptocurrency or any other form of currency that exists in the world.
Every other currency bows to the faith currency and that is what we should be more enthusiastic about.
